This page is intended to provide information to help to get going with the Railmonitor.

  1. What does the Railmonitor screen look like? only the Railmonitor Logo
    1. Does the bootloader start Firmwareupdate? → contact your partner
  2. Blue ruler on the top and on the right of the screen?
    1. Please, wait until an error message is shown on the screen → contact your partner
  3. Measurement visible?
    1. If the measurement is not visible although the laser scanner worked → contact your partner
  4. Reference profile visible?
    1. If the reference profile is not visible and there is no error message try to change the rail type to FREE and repeat the measurement.
  5. If an error message is printed on the screen → contact your partner
  6. How is the laser sensor's behaviour?
    1. Homing is performed during startup (sound)?
    2. Red dot is visible during measurement? –Danger: Laser radiation! Do not ever look into the beam or the reflected beam!–
    3. Does the red dot move during measurement? –Danger: Laser radiation! Do not ever look into the beam or the reflected beam!–
  7. Options not working?
    1. Old gauge and cant:
      1. Try <Menu> and select “Options..” with pressing <Navi-Enter> or <Yes/Edit>
    2. New gauge:
      1. Homing is performed during startup (sound)?
      2. Red dot is visible and moving during measurement? –Danger: Laser radiation! Do not ever look into the beam or the reflected beam!–
      3. Are there error messages e.g. “not connected”, “left align nok”, “right align nok” ? → see manual
    3. Mirror profiles looks strange?
      1. Is the correct mirror mounted?
      2. XVB, XVS uses the switch mirror
      3. VIGNOL+ uses the huge wear mirror
      4. VIGNOL- uses the small wear mirror

How to get help from us

To being able to help in fast and efficient way we need some information about the Railmonitor. Perform the steps below and then zip the CF-Card content → contact your partner

Save the backups

Try to perform a Railmonitor backup. Can you perform all of the backups?

Save the measurement

To generate additional output (When some of the measurements look strange) :

  • Version 4.34 and earlier
    • Switch off the Railmonitor
    • Press and hold <F1>,<F2> and <F3> while switching on the Railmonitor
    • Select “System” and press <Navi-Enter> or <Yes/Edit>
    • Enter code “3” and press <Yes/Edit>
    • set GenCSV to “10”
    • Press <Yes/Edit>
    • Answer the question “Save Settings?” with pressing <Yes/Edit>
    • Switch off the Railmonitor
    • Switch on the Railmonitor
    • Make sure to have a named session
    • repeat the scan
    • The additional Data gets written to a folder with the sessions name into the folder “RMLV0”
  • Version 4.35 and higher
    • Menu > Save Raw. Creates a sub folder SUPPORT inside folder RMLV0.

Save a Screenshot

From Version 4.24 it is possible to save a Screenshot:

  • press and hold the button 'Cursor'
  • then press the knob 'Zoom'
  • The char 'S' appears above, left of the fuel indicator
  • release all keys
  • The device will be blocked at least half a minute.
  • The bitmap is stored on the card within the folder SCREENS with the timestamp (ddhhmmss.bmp).
